It’s been a busy and exciting summer here at the Knights of Middle England! According to the Chinese 2012 is the year of the dragon, but here at The Knights it has been the year of the Stag Do, as well as being busy with the Jousting School, Shows and filming!

Bright costumes, fast horses and exciting stunts…

The summer is always a full on time for the Knights who travel the length and breadth of the Country performing our fast and exciting action-packed Jousting displays at all different types of events. The second half of the summer season took us taking a very long drive down to Launceston to perform at the Devon and Cornwall Countryman’s Fair set in the grounds of the beautiful Werrington Park estate. The weather was not particularly kind to us and it was no surprise that we had some rain but the welcoming Cornish crowds still came out in their thousands to cheer on their favourite Knight and in the end a great weekend was had by all!

September saw us perform at the RAF Brize Norton Families’ Day. The largest army base in Europe, families day is a way to say ‘thank you’ to all the friends and families who support the officers that do such a fantastic job. This is the second barracks families day that the Knights have been involved in and we are proud to be able to do our bit for our fantastic armed forces.

Our final show of the summer was at the local Polo in the Park event at the Dallas Burston Polo Club. A great family day out, the Knights have been involved in the event for many years now; it’s always great to perform for a home crowd!

We already have lots of exciting shows coming up next year so keep an eye out to see if the Knights will be performing at a show near you soon!! To keep up to date check out our Events Calendar!

The Year of the Stag Do…

Forget 2012 being the Chinese Year of the Dragon or of the London Olympics (did anyone see the Knight themed fence at the Showjumping?!) 2012 is the year of the Stag Do! We have had at least 2 bookings a month since March! With a variety of packages from half day, full day, and all-inclusive weekends - we can offer the ultimate Stag (or Hen!) package with a difference! For more information check out Stag and Hen page on the website or Contact Us.

The Knights swap Lance for Bow and Arrow….

For the Knights of Old it was not enough to be skilled in jousting and sword fighting, it was also necessary to master the art of archery on horseback! And so September saw the Jousting School launch our Horse Archery Experiences. The initial half day experience gives you taster of what it takes to be able to canter down the archery run unleashing your arrows upon the targets and trying to strike the gold! Available in group and private sessions on select dates throughout the year check out the Jousting School page of the website or Contact Us for more information!

Don’t forget that private jousting tuition and Trick riding workshops are also available throughout the winter! Keep practising those skills ready for the Spring Tournament!

Second Time Lucky for Sir Luke...

On its second anniversary since its inception, it was second time competitor Luke Hemming a.k.a Sir Luke Witchborn of Buckingham who lead from the start to claim the title of Champion at the Autumn Amateur Jousting Tournament on Sunday 14th October. Once again run in aid of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, the Tournament saw 12 of our Knights-in-Training battle it out under some very welcome October sunshine in the Skill at Arms before then taking on an Instructor in a contact joust for those all important final points!

Luke lead from the start with a very impressive performance in the Skills section to take 1st place with Tournament veteran and previous winner Steve Fearnley (aka Victor Von Doom) taking a very close 2nd place after an unprecedented joust finishing just 2 points behind Luke. Third place went to Nic Bevan (Sir Nic of Oakfield) who was back defending his title after winning the previous Tournament in May. For the full results and to see how the ongoing League Table stands visit our Amateur Tournament pages on our website.

This Tournament saw many first and second time participants who all did very well,  the ever increasing skills shown by our Tournament regulars continue to impress! Well done to you all! The ongoing league is growing from strength to strength with every Tournament and it is great to see so many of you getting involved in the ultimate equestrian sport! We looking forward to seeing you all again at our Spring Tournament in May 2013…!
