Newsletter September 2008Current EventsOver the last months our Knight’s courage has seriously been put to the test. They threw down the gauntlet to over 800 pupils of Ash Manor School in Surrey, challenging each pupil to master a sword fight routine, fire a trebuchet and compete in a longbow archery competition, after which each of the four school houses were allocated an individual knight for the jousting tournament. The pupils cheered their bold ‘house’ knight to victory. Our horses are used to the loudest cannons being fired but nothing prepared them for the noise that these screaming kids produced! It will definitely be the one and only time that The Black Knight has ever had so many supporters! The Knights had the honour of entertaining 37 young VIPs’ from Oman at Canary Warf, Isle of Dogs, London. With its impressive grand towers, it provided a spectacular back drop for our 21st Century knights and their jousting tournament. Dressed from head to foot in medieval attire the boy’s skills, with a sword, were put to the test. They experienced a completely new and exciting spectacle as the knights gave them a taste of real Olde England! Showing their enthusiasm to participate during the jousting display, they stormed the ring and attacked the The Black Knight as he was in the throws of defeating The Earl of London! The summers torrential rain couldn’t dampen the knight’s spirits at their appearances across the UK; One particular show at Newport proved this, after the heavens opened during a gruelling battle against The Black Knight and Baron Von Buren, the Earl of Newport, with his French ally and a fantastic damp but hearty crowd behind him, challenged The Black Knight to awesome four man sword fight, which left The Black Knight hurt, defeated and begging for mercy! The Knights get on boardThe fame of the Knights of Middle England Jousting Academy is truly taking off internationally, with an amazing five page spread in the August issue of the EasyJet in-flight magazine, with over 6 million people flying with EasyJet during this peak summer month, it’s no wonder that we have been getting immense feedback and after only a few weeks!. News FlashOur half day private lessons have been proving very popular. Even more so with one of our clients Oliver Buckingham. Oliver came to us in June 2008 with one goal: To join our knights in a show. He has been undergoing intense weekly sessions, developing his skills with a lance, shield and helm and jousting against our finest knights. All of his hard work has paid off; his dream will become reality when he joins The Knights of Middle England in a September show.
