Sudeley Castle proves a draw for mediaeval enthusiasts. This is Gloucestershire - September 2008
Hundreds of medieval enthusiasts turned out to Sudeley Castle's Battle at the weekend.
Two days of traditional old English fun and excitement thrilled the crowds, who flocked to the historic Winchcombe venue.
The sun added to the spirit of the medieval extravaganza as knights of the realm put on a jousting performance of epic standards, while the ladies' archery also proved a big draw.
There was also squire training and a talk on the 100 Years' War.
John Smith, 70, went with friends from Cheltenham.
He said: "It's been good. There are lovely gardens.
"We watched the ladies' archery earlier, which was good. There's plenty to see here."
Blockley resident Gill Dutten, 37, who was at Sudeley Castle with her two children William, three, and James, one, said the medieval extravaganza was family-friendly.
"The turnout is great and it's lovely for children to do something different and get out into the open air.
"Something as different as this appeals to them.
"There are some terrific displays and there was good weather, which helps."
Event organiser Jenny Hartree was thrilled with the turnout.
She said: "It's the perfect place to have a jousting tournament. We've got the field right next to the castle and it's a great atmosphere.
"It's been fabulous. You just can't help enjoying something like this."
